As a Registered Psychotherapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor with 8 years of experience in mental health, I integrate evidence-based and holistic approaches to support clients in creating meaningful, lasting change. My therapeutic style is rooted in mindfulness, existential exploration, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), alongside modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. I work with individuals navigating addiction, PTSD/trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, and chronic pain or illness.
I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore challenges openly, release unhelpful patterns, and develop empowering beliefs and habits. My goal is to help you strengthen your ability to regulate thoughts, emotions, and behaviours while reconnecting to your sense of purpose. I also offer specialized support for those living with Crohn’s or colitis, drawing from both professional expertise and lived experience.
Alongside my private practice, I work at a rehabilitation centre for substance use, supporting people in recovery with trauma-informed, evidence-based care. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the courage it takes to face suffering and the resilience that can emerge through healing.
Beyond my clinical work, I contribute to the evolving field of psychedelic medicine as a researcher with MAPS Canada, Heroic Hearts Canada, and the Zendo Project, focusing on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics and the development of harm reduction frameworks. This research perspective enriches my practice, allowing me to bridge science, mindfulness, and compassion in service of growth and transformation.

I am a bilingual (English/French) therapist and military spouse with lived experience in the realities of service life: frequent relocations, operational stress, and the emotional impact of transition. I’ve supported pregnant and postpartum women in preventing depression, worked with immigrant and multicultural families under diverse conditions, and contributed to research on mental resilience.
My approach is solution-focused and collaborative. I help clients identify strengths, restore psychological balance, and adapt with purpose through life’s challenges. My goal is to provide grounded, confidential and personalized support that aligns with the demands of military and family life for members and their families alike, as well as providing care for civilian wellness. Alexandra Zapata RP
Alexandra believes that healing begins within a therapeutic relationship where people feel genuinely safe to show up as they are. When our full humanity—including the parts shaped by pain, uncertainty, contradiction, and complexity—is met with trust, authenticity, compassion, and genuine human connection, even life’s most difficult experiences can become opportunities for deeper self-understanding, healing, and reconnection with our truest selves, others, and the lives we want to create.
As a Registered Psychotherapist, Alexandra’s work with adults and older adults is grounded in an integrative, trauma-informed approach that draws upon psychodynamic, existential, mindfulness-based, IFS-informed, somatic, nature-based, and psychospiritual principles and strategies. She believes therapy is not simply about reducing symptoms, but about creating the conditions for meaningful exploration, integration, and lasting transformation. She approaches each therapeutic relationship with curiosity, collaboration, and deep respect for every person’s unique story, values, and lived experience.
Alexandra is particularly drawn to supporting individuals navigating experiences that challenge their existing understanding of themselves and the world around them. Whether someone is moving through trauma, profound life transitions, existential questioning, identity exploration, or psychedelic preparation and integration, she enjoys helping clients explore questions such as: What is this experience asking of me? Who am I becoming through it? Through a strengths-based approach, Alexandra supports clients in making sense of these experiences while cultivating greater clarity, resilience, and confidence to move forward with intention. She also helps clients develop greater awareness of their nervous system through experiential practices that deepen presence and support a greater sense of safety within themselves.
For more than three years, Alexandra has provided psychotherapy to refugee and newcomer populations experiencing complex trauma, grief, displacement, identity transitions, and the psychological impact of forced migration. Working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds in both English and Spanish has strengthened her commitment to culturally responsive, compassionate, and person-centred care, while deepening her appreciation for the resilience and adaptability of the human spirit.
